The big idea
Every website you visit, from a search engine to a game wiki, is built from text files. Your browser (the app you use to visit websites, such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge) reads those files and turns them into the colourful page on your screen. By the end of this course you will write those files yourself.
Let's explore
When you type a web address, three things happen:
- Your browser sends a request across the internet to a server, a computer that stores the website's files and sends them to anyone who asks.
- The server sends back a response: the files for that page.
- Your browser reads the files and draws the page. This is called rendering.
